Duane "Tally" Telliano passed away yesterday at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina.  Apparently he had a blockage caused by one of his hernias and surgery was not an option because of his low blood pressure.

Tally wore many hats, but many of you knew him as the long time Teacher and Head Track and Field Coach at Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles, USATF pole vault official, volunteer at the Mt. SAC Special Events or long time worker at the LA Unified School District All-Comers Meets.  After his retirement a few years ago, his love of the sport and the kids, led him back to the sport as an Assistant Coach at Pasadena City College, USA Track and Field Official and Co-Director of the International Pole Vault Camp.

Tally was a champion high school pole vaulter (LA CIty Section Champion) and later went on to compete at Cal State Los Angeles.  Two years ago he was honored as the Jeff Truman Memorial Summit Scholarship Recipient by On Track and was also honored by the USA Track and Field Pole Vault Development as one of the Heros of the sport for his life long work with young pole vaulters in the Los Angeles Area.  Tally was a very special person who always gave and never took.  He volunteered hundreds of hours, donated thousands of dollars to help young individuals and made a tremendous impact in the lives of those he touched.

Viewing for Tally will be held on Monday, December 14th at Rose Hills (Gate 1) from 11 am to 8:30 pm.  The funeral service has been set for Tuesday, December 15th at St. Martha's Church at 9 am (444 North Azusa Avenue, La Puente, CA 91744)
