Inaugural California State Indoor HS Invitational !
Saturday, February 6th, 2010 at the Save-Mart Center, Fresno State University

  ***** JANUARY 22nd UPDATE *****
JAN. 23 RIVERSIDE AREA QUALIFIER POSTPONED UNTIL JANUARY 30TH
We regret to inform you that we received word late Friday morning of January 22nd that the January 23rd qualifier at Riverside Community College has been rescheduled until Saturday, January 30th. Due to the current facility being deemed not suitable for competition tomorrow due to
the heavy rains, it became necessary to postpone the meet. No other confirmed information is available at this time. We will post no other information on this meet until full and confirmed details are available.

                                                                    ***** JANUARY 5TH UPDATE *****
AT-LARGE STANDARDS ANNOUNCED FOR JAN. 23 QUALIFIER MEETS
Meet directors for the February 6th California Indoor Invitational track and field meet have released the at-large standards for the six qualifying meets to be conducted at various sites across the state on January 23rd. The top four placers at the January 23rd qualifying meets in each of the track events being contested at the February 6th meet will automatically qualify for the February 6th meet. The top two in each field event will automatically advance.
Any athlete/relay that who does not place in the top four in a track event (top two in field) at their January 23rd regional meet but does meet the at-large standard below at one of the six meets that day will be placed on a "provisional marks" qualifying list that day. At the end of the day, the top provisional marks from the six qualifying meets will be reviewed and the best marks from that grouping will "fill the entry field" for each event at the February 6 meet.
Here's how it will work, keeping in mind that there will be total of up to 35 qualifiers into the February 6th meet in each event (24 auto and 11 at-large for tack events and 12 auto and 23 at-large in each field event):
Up to 24 spots will be filled automatically on January 23rd (6 regionals X 4 auto spots per regional). In order for a top 4 finisher in a track event to claim their spot to the February 6th meet, they must pay the $25 entry fee on January 23rd. If anyone who places in the top four in a track event does not pay on that day, they lose their spot and that spot then goes into the "provisional marks" pool. So let's say only 21 of the automatic 24 spots are claimed in a track event. That leaves three new at-large spots that move into the provisional pool along with the 11 that were already there. So now the best 14 provisional marks from across that state that day (those that did not place in the top four at their regional) would earn the final spots.
Keep in mind while some events may appear to have "soft" at-large standards, careful research shows that some regions are stronger than others in certain events and what might appear to be an easy standard in one region could be very difficult in another. Trust us, we've researched it.
Here are the at-large marks that must be achieved on January 23rd to be considered as an at-large entry:

First story in November on indoor meet...

(November 20, 2009) -- Are you ready for some ... indoor track and field?
In what could be the first step toward the possible expansion of track and field to someday host an official California indoor state track and field meet, DyeStatCal has learned that a state-meet style indoor event is being organized by a private group and set to take place on Saturday, February 6th at the Save-Mart Center on the Fresno State University campus.
Participation into the meet will be by performance qualification only, with a series of six pre-determined all-comers meets across the state being contested two weeks prior to the February 6th affair. The top four placers in selected track events at each of the six meets will determine 24 automatic qualifiers, with up to eight additional 'at-large' qualifiers per event for a total of 32 entries. The top two placers in selected field events at each of the six meets will determine 12 automatic qualifiers in those events, with additional 'at-large' qualifiers also being invited.
The sites of the six all-comers meets will be officially announced shortly, but it appears two meets will be hosted in Northern California (one in the Sac-Joaquin Section region and another in the North Coast Section region), once in Central California (in the Central Section region) and three in Southern California (two in the Southern Section region and one in the San Diego Section region).
The events tentatively scheduled for the indoor finale are the 55-meter dash, the 55-meter hurdles, the 600-yard run, the 800-meter run, the mile, the two-mile, the 4x160-yard relay, the 4x400m relay, the pole vault, the high jump, the long jump and the shot put.
